Dr. Don Bain, President of St. John Fisher College

Dear Friends:

It is my pleasure to welcome you to St. John Fisher College.

As someone who has been a member of the Fisher Family for nearly 35 years, I am proud to have witnessed how the College has evolved and prospered, particularly within the last decade. During that time, Fisher has seen impressive growth in all areas—student population, number of faculty/staff, and even the physical layout of the campus. We have created schools and academic programs to help meet the needs of our community and satisfy the interests of our students. And we have vastly increased opportunities for our students to be involved in campus life as well as the Greater Rochester area. But even as things have changed, some remain the same. We have stayed true to our Basilian heritage by continuing to place emphasis on and take pride in the quality of a Fisher education.

There is little doubt that a college education is the most important investment a person will ever make. But how do you put a value on such an experience? College is where our students transition from young adulthood to independent members of society. It is where they choose their lives' paths, and where they make the lifelong friends who will accompany them on that journey.

At St. John Fisher College, we offer instruction for full- and part-time undergraduates, students who transfer from other institutions, and graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels. Our curriculum is built upon a solid foundation in the liberal arts. No matter which direction or career path an individual chooses, Fisher will prepare them for life after college. Our caring and competent faculty guide our students to discover their unique strengths and abilities, and encourage them to achieve academic success. It is our hope that, after graduation, all Fisher students will go on to enrich the communities in which they live.

Our commitment to our students does not end at graduation. To date, the College has nearly 21,000 graduates. Some have stayed close and have become valuable leaders in the Rochester area, and some have traveled far. Still, wherever our alumni go and whatever they do, they never really leave Fisher behind. Many continue to stay involved with the College through boards, committees, and other volunteer opportunities. In addition, each year, we welcome hundreds of alumni to our Homecoming/Reunion Weekend in the fall. And, the fact that so many of our alumni are motivated to give back to the College is a testament to the character of the people who attend Fisher—both who they are when they arrive, and who they have become by graduation.

I encourage you to explore the pages of this site to learn what makes Fisher “home” to all of us who are a part of its community. I look forward to meeting you and sharing your experience at St. John Fisher College.

Best regards,
Donald E. Bain, Ph.D.
President
