Legal Studies (Pre-Law)

Why Legal Studies?

Are you interested in the relationship between law and society? Are you seriously considering law school or graduate school after college? Are you interested in careers in law, government service, or lobbying? If so, consider a major in Legal Studies!

Legal Studies (Pre-Law) at Fisher

The Legal Studies major is the academic component of the Pre-Law Experience at Fisher, which includes the Pre-Law Student Association, participation in activities such as Mock Trial, and one-on-one advising with the chair of Political Science and Legal Studies.

Legal Studies is a 36 credit-hour Bachelor of Arts program and requires the declaration of a second major.

With the Legal Studies major, you'll gain substantive knowledge about law and society (broadly defined) with an emphasis on law's societal, political, and humanities contexts.

3+3 Programs With Michigan State University College of Law and Ohio Northern University

In Spring 2015, Fisher announced a 3+3 Legal Education Accelerated Program (LEAP) which will allow Legal Studies majors and Pre-Law students at Fisher an opportunity to earn a law degree in six years, while minimizing the cost of their education.

To qualify for the program, students must:

  • Matriculate at Fisher as first-year students, completing the College’s First Year Program and Core Curriculum requirements
  • Consult with a LEAP advisor during their freshman or sophomore year to discuss educational and career goals
  • Complete a minimum of 91 Liberal Arts credits
  • Earn a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.6 or higher

The Law School Admission Test (LSAT) requirement for acceptance into the MSU program is a score of 155 or higher, and for the ONU program, students must score at or above the 50th percentile.
