Why Study Media Management?

The B.S. in Media Management program (part of Fisher's Department of Media and Communication) blends media skills and conceptual understanding with business literacy to prepare you as a strategic communicator for careers that involve media project oversight, direction, and management.

With a focus on persuasive communication that integrates PR, advertising, and marketing, the Media Management curriculum will teach you to:

  • Produce messages effectively across various media platforms
  • Prepare and deliver effective oral presentations
  • Analyze and plan for strategic presentation of these messages

The Media Management Program

The Media Management program combines the subject knowledge and skills of a communication degree with a business/marketing degree. This convergence is underway in public relations, advertising, marketing, and other industries.

The degree program emphasizes traditional and emerging communication skills including writing, online presentation, and social media.

You will also learn practical business skills to give you an understanding of how businesses operate, and the ability to manage and direct projects within an organization.

Hands-On Experiences

Outside of the classroom, you'll find opportunities to build your skills with a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities including:

  • Cardinal Courier, our campus newspaper and online news site
  • Cardinal Television, an on-campus closed-circuit broadcast station that also produces work for Time Warner Educational Access Channel 4
  • Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
  • PRIMA Connections, a student-run marketing communications firm
  • Lambda Pi Eta, a national speech communication honor society

Career Opportunities

With a B.S. in Media Management, you'll be prepared for careers outside of traditional media industries such as corporate communications, non-profit agency marketing and communications, and positions in public relations, advertising, and marketing agencies.

Graduates with a Media Management degree are prepared for jobs such as:

  • Advertising Account Executive
  • Marketing Communications Specialist
  • Media Relations Coordinator
  • Public Relations Manager
  • Marketing support staff

Department of Media and Communication

The B.S. in Media Management degree is offered by the Department of Media and Communication. The department also offers a B.A. in Communication/Journalism and is closely affiliated with the Digital Cultures and Technologies program.
