Literacy Practicum Courses
Requirements & Procedures
If you are registered for one of the off-campus practicums (GRDG 637 or 638-02), we will be assigning a supervisor for your practicum who will support and evaluate the course requirements. If you are registered for the on-campus practicum (GRDG 637 or 638-01), we will be identifying a child or children for you to work with during the period of the course. In order for us to do move forward with the necessary assignments, please complete and return appropriate information form by no later than May 13th for the summer practicums, August 25th for the fall, and December 18th for the spring, to:
Eileen Atwell or email@example.com
St. John Fisher College
Ralph C. Wilson Bldg. Ste. 205
3690 East Avenue
Rochester, NY 14618
Please note that you should return the form with all the required information. Failure to do so will delay the assignment of a supervisor or child(ren) and hence the successful completion of your course.
For those completing the off-campus practicum, the requirements for your practicum course include 50 hours of planning, assessment, and instruction. If you are teaching, you may work with students in your classroom provided that you have set aside a specific time to work with them in literacy. If you have completed any assessments, or have specific plans to assess the students with whom you are working before a supervisor is assigned to you, it is fine to do so, however do not begin your formal instructional plans for the students until you have met with your supervisor. Additional assessments may be required by the supervisor. We reserve the right to require 50 hours of experience beginning after your first meeting with your supervisor.
*PLEASE NOTE: If you received a copy of this letter and you are not financially registered for this course then you will not receive credit. Please be sure you are registered and completed all financial obligations. A copy of this letter does not guarantee nor complete the registration process.
