02/26/2015On Wednesday, March 4, St. John Fisher College’s Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education and Lavery Library will host the 17th Rochester City School District Annual Storytelling Festival. Last year’s festival, which is free to attend, attracted over 200 people to campus and included Rochester students in grades 3 through 8 who participated in a storytelling competition. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., and the storytelling begins at 6:30 p.m. in a variety of classrooms in the Wegmans School of Nursing. Read More

02/04/2015By this time next year, it’s possible that senior education major Caitlin Antaya will be teaching English in Turkey. That is, if she gets word from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program that she has been chosen to receive a grant to fund her experience. Read More

01/22/2015In the wake of the recent racially fueled protests in Ferguson, Missouri, and other places around the country, a group of Fisher faculty started discussing the issues with each other as well as their students. It was when the grand jury decided not to indict any of the police officers involved in the death of Eric Garner on Staten Island that this same group decided it was time to delve into the discussion a little more. 12/11/2014Dr. Mike Wischnowski, Dean of the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education, recently attended a reunion for the Ed.D. in Executive Leadership Program at the College of New Rochelle (CNR), one of the program’s extension sites. The reunion took place on December 6 in Maura Hall at CNR and was organized by alumni of the program. Read More
12/03/2014On Wednesday, December 3, over 40 5th grade Palmyra-Macedon students traveled to St. John Fisher College to meet with students from the Ralph. Wilson, Jr. School of Education. The objective was to showcase the college experience, first-hand, along with the benefits that come with furthering their education to the young visitors. Read More
11/06/2014This semester, students in Dr. Susan Schultz’s Language Acquisition and Literacy Development course are enveloped in service-learning, working with Volunteers of America and Maplewood Library on after-school programs for children ranging from pre-school through elementary school. 10/31/2014Dr. Linda Schlosser, Associate Professor in the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education, coauthored an article, “Playing to Learn: How After-School Clubs Influence Teachers’ Beliefs about Instruction,” which will appear this month in Sage Open. Read More
