The St. John Fisher College Wegmans School of Nursing today announced the inaugural “Joining Forces” Conference, which will promote the health of veterans, military personnel, and their families. The conference will be held on the Fisher campus on May 13 and 14.

The weekend after Thanksgiving, while most people were still feeling the effects of the turkey’s tryptophan, a group of nursing students boarded a plane for Kenya where they would spend the final three weeks of the semester – and their college careers – working at remote clinics and educating the Kenyan people about healthcare.

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is donating a total of $1 million over five years to expand primary health care, mental health care, social services, and adult education for Rochester’s underserved populations and to expand educational opportunities for students in St. John Fisher College’s Wegmans School of Nursing. Dr. Dianne Cooney Miner, Dean, School of Nursing, was instrumental in securing the grant.

Dr. Dianne Cooney Miner, Dean, Wegmans School of Nursing, has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the 2013 Athena Award. The annual award is presented by the Women’s Council of the Rochester Business Alliance.

This September, St. John Fisher College introduced the Online RN-to-BS in Nursing Program, the first fully online academic program for the College. And with one semester under the laptop, the College is busy getting ready for its next cohort of students starting in January 2013.

Christina D’Agostino was recently named the 2012 Nurse Practitioner Student of the Year by the Nurse Practitioner Association (NPA) of New York. She completed the Wegmans School of Nursing’s Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program in August, and is now serving as an adjunct faculty member.
