Dr. Richards began his professional career as a pharmacist in the Air Force where he served as Chief of Pharmacy at a base hospital. After returning to civilian life, he worked as a pharmacist and manager in community pharmacy settings. He later joined a wholesale distribution company as the general manager and eventually became an owner/operator of his own distribution company. He also served as Associate Editor for a pharmacy information software company. These experiences and a desire to serve led to an advanced degree and a faculty position in pharmacy administration. Dr. Richards is an accomplished speaker and educator with a talent for relating his knowledge and experience to students in pharmacy. His research interests center on advancing community pharmacy practice and issues facing community pharmacists. He is an active member in APhA, AACP, PSSNY, and PSR.

Dr. Richards has always been active in the communities in which he has lived. An active Rotarian for over 25 years, he has served as president of two Rotary Clubs and is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Pittsford where he serves on the Board of Directors. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Pittsford Foundation. He also serves on the Council of the George Eastman House.

Dr. Richards is a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fairport. He serves as an usher, communion assistant, and Eucharistic minister and participates in Men’s Club activities.

Dr. Richards serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, Harvey Whitney Books, and Jones and Bartlett Publications. He has served on the Editorial Advisory Board for the American Pharmacists Association and the Annals of Pharmacotherapy where he chaired the Medicine, Law, and Ethics Panel.

Dr. Richards has always been an active member of state pharmacy associations in the states in which he has lived. He was a longtime member of the Indiana Pharmacists Alliance serving on the Board of Directors and a multi-term treasurer. He served on several committees as a member of the Florida Pharmacists Association and is currently active with the Pharmacy Society of Rochester.
