Upgraded Email System for Faculty and Staff
07/12/2011
The Office of Information Technology has been planning for the deployment of a new email system, Exchange 2010, and migrating faculty and staff email accounts to the new system by the end of this summer. The existing email system (Exchange 2003) is seven years old, and at the end of its life cycle. The new features of Exchange 2010 will vastly improve the email client messaging experience.
Faculty and staff using the desktop client (Outlook 2007 or 2010) will see very little change, most improvements are behind-the-scenes, providing greater efficiency, increased redundancy, and increased mailbox size. Those who use webmail (OWA) will encounter the majority of the improvements in terms of look, feel, and functionality. In addition, webmail users will have the ability to manage mobile devices using Exchange Active Synch supporting windows mobile, iPhone, and Droid phone users.
