Born in Brooklyn in 1897, Day made her mark as a journalist, social activist and a devout convert to Catholicism. Co-founder of the Catholic Worker Newspaper/Movement in 1933, Day is perhaps best known for her long battle for peace and justice on behalf of the poor and homeless. She died in 1980. Her work continues today around the world in over 180 Catholic Worker Communities protesting injustice and violence in all forms.=0D=0ARoundtable V: SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EDUCATION1:45-3:05 PM=0D=0AJeff Liles (Ralph C. Wilson School of Education) and students and faculty from East High School, Rochester, New York: Introducing the Rochester Participatory Education Research Collaborative (RPERC). In this session, we will present a collaborative research model that is an alternative to more traditional research models. In this model, college professors, high school teachers, and high school students from an urban school work together to research questions that are generated by the students about their own educational experiences. The students will present some of the work they have done over the last year on the topic of college readiness.
