DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Sandra Uwiringiy'imana is Congolese (Banyamulengue) which is an ethnic group that has been persecuted and has not been recognized as citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Banyamulengue and all other Tutsi origin people are discriminated by Bambembe, Bafulero and Bavira which is supported by the government. During the rise of ethnic hatred and violence in 2004 her family fled across the border to Burundi to the Gatumba camp. On August 13, 2004, militia (rebels) attacked the camp with machetes, gunfire, grenades and fire. The Gatumba Massacre resulted in the murder of 166 unarmed refugees and 116 injured. Sandra's six year old sister Deborah was amongst the victims that were brutally murdered. Sandra arrived in the US in 2007.
