A typical day
Manage the library systems (FisherCat, WorldCat, ILLiad, Get It @ Fisher, "Everything" Search, Fisher Digital Publications, etc.). Meet with students and faculty for research consultations, buy books. Meet with OIT and other departments around campus to plan for campus IT needs. Put out some fires here or there. Fiddle with code and with image editors. Teach workshops.
My areas of expertise/interest:
Library and Tech hats: Open access publishing, scholarly communication, search and retrieval (subject access, facets), hacktivism, game-based learning, data science.
Art hat: mixed-media abstraction, figurative art, street art, noise, found sound, folk music.
Before becoming a librarian
One of my previous jobs was preparing exhibits and workshops (and cleaning wax ovens) at an encaustic paint factory and workshop center.
