In late October, students from Fisher’s TRIO-SSS program traveled to Beaver Hollow Conference Center in Java, New York, to engage in a weekend of self-care, alumni networking, and learning about financial literacy.

The TRIO-SSS program traveled with advisors Gabe Iturbides and Rene Montedoro.

During the retreat, the students were given a chance to de-stress and get to know each other in a unique way.

“Spending time with students in a relaxed setting yet still giving them tips for life after Fisher is special. Engaging with students away from campus is so unique, and we get to see each other in a different light while still opening up doors for all who attended,” said Iturbides.

TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a program that provides services to college students who are first-generation, low-income, or have a disability. TRIO scholars have access to academic tutoring, seminar sessions that provide resources and tools, the TRIO-SSS Scholar Lounge, research opportunities, and more.

“It's so easy for all of us to get caught up in our busy schedules and rush from one thing to the next. Our retreat was the perfect balance of slowing down, appreciating nature and the present moment,” said Montedoro.
