From the Big Screen to Fisher: Media and Communication Adds Local Filmmaker to Adjunct Roster

Her work has been seen worldwide, and Newsweek named one of her films as one of the five best non-fiction films in 2001. Lucky for Fisher students, she has joined the Media and Communication Department this semester as an adjunct professor. Linda Moroney’s résumé is extensive, and she is excited to add teaching at Fisher to her experience.

Moroney has produced films that have been shown on the big screen and on stage. The Greentopia/Film Director is also the founder of the Rochester Documentary Filmmakers Group and programmer for One Take: Stories through the Lens, a monthly documentary series at the Little Theatre in Rochester. She is a 1995 graduate of Hofstra University.

According to Moroney, she “cut her filmmaking teeth” working with Academy Award winner, Faith Hubley. She was also a producer on the independent feature-length documentary, “Ram Dass Fierce Grace,” which landed her the accolades from Newsweek. The film was broadcast nationally on PBS in 2004.

In 2001, she served as a co-producer for Lemle Pictures, Inc., and was responsible for all public relations and marketing for the company’s public screenings and for all previous documentary titles. She was also the company’s representative at film festivals and conferences, and collaborated on the development of all new projects.

In 2007, Moroney was the Curator for the Animated Jazz Shorts from The Hubley Studio, which was a co-presentation by the Rochester International Jazz Festival, Rochester/High Falls Film Festival, and George Eastman House.  From 2009-2011, she was the Managing Director/Programmer for the 360/365 George Eastman House Film Festival.

And if that’s not enough, Moroney is also the co-founder of the Rochester Teen Film Festival and the Rochester Teen Film Camp, which is a week-long overnight camp for students 13-18 years old.

As she teaches the “Documentary and Non-Fiction Film” course at Fisher this semester, she will continue to produce and direct a feature-length documentary called, “Turn the Page,” with Crystal Pix, as well as produce a documentary on the Dalai Lama.
