Fisher’s Noyce Scholars Head to Boston

10/22/2012

St. John Fisher College Noyce Scholars Carolyn Barone and Michaela Nelson traveled to Boston October 11-13 for the 2012 Noyce Northeast Regional Meeting. Drs. Bernard Ricca and Erik Winarski accompanied the students.

Both students are math majors in their junior year. The conference brought scholars from over 40 Noyce programs in the Northeast region to meet, network, and share ideas and best practices related to teaching in high-needs schools.

The College’s Robert Noyce Scholars Program, Fisher Scholars for Rural Schools (FISCHRS), is a program to increase the number of qualified and effective mathematics teachers in high-needs rural K-12 schools. This program is funded by the National Science Foundation and provides scholarships to students pursuing certification in Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12) in mathematics.
