First Generation Scholars Maintain Playground Project
On Sunday, April 22, 15 First Generation Scholars from St. John Fisher College spent the day beautifying and maintaining the playground they built in September 2010, with help from the Genesee Land Trust and community members.
The playground is located on the corner of Clifford and Conkey Avenues in the City of Rochester, and was due for maintenance work and a little TLC in order to be ready for the upcoming summer months.
The students battled the cold, wind, and rain to finish the job and get the park and playground ready for the neighborhood children. They laid mulch and fresh top soil, weeded, and picked up trash that had accumulated over the winter months.
Jeff Reisman ’12 is one of the scholars who was there when the playground was first built, and he participated in the recent clean-up for the last time as a Fisher student.
“It's been a great experience helping build and maintain the playground with my fellow First Generation Scholars over the past two years,” said Reisman. “The project has been a great way to give back to the great Rochester community.”
