Fast Facts About Fisher

Fisher is an independent, liberal arts institution in the Catholic tradition of American higher education. It emphasizes liberal learning for students in traditional academic disciplines, as well as for those in more directly career-oriented fields.

The campus is situated on 164 park-like acres - a beautiful setting for modern buildings and a warm, friendly campus community. It offers over 35 academic majors in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, business, education, and nursing, as well as 11 pre-professional programs.

Fisher offers a variety of master's and doctoral programs.

History

Founded in 1948 by the Congregation of St. Basil as a Catholic College for men, Fisher became independent in 1968 and coeducational in 1971 and continues to honor its Catholic and Basilian heritage.

Athletics

Athletics are an important part of campus life. Fisher is a Division III member of the NCAA, the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, Empire 8, and the Liberty League (rowing).

Men compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and wrestling.

Women compete in basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

Activities

Students may choose from a wide range of campus clubs and organizations, including student government, music groups, language clubs, cultural organizations, student publications, and intramural sports. Many academic departments also sponsor clubs.

Points of Pride

Several Fisher faculty members have received prestigious Fulbright Scholarships, an honor accorded to only about one thousand faculty members in the nation each year. Also, Fisher is consistently named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service to America's communities.
