Countdown to Commencement: Makenna King

March 11, 2024

The next student to be featured in our “Countdown to Commencement” series is Makenna King, an inclusive adolescence education and mathematics major. King was nominated by Dr. Susie Hildenbrand, associate professor in the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education.

King is described as an incredibly positive student, exceptional in the classroom, and a team leader. As the women’s track and field captain since her sophomore year, she says she is motivated by her professors and her coaches.

From a young age, King has had a passion for helping others in the classroom which started from her natural comfort in the classroom. She hopes she can give back to her future students the care and respect she received from her professors and coaches at Fisher.

King is also a recipient of the NOYCE Scholarship which is a federally-funded grant through the National Science Foundation for math and science adolescence education majors. This scholarship has allowed her to offset the cost of tuition and experience mentorship from professional educators.

She hopes to help future generations succeed in the classroom by becoming a teacher and a coach.
