Fisher’s Website Earns Public Relations Award
June 19, 2017
The St. John Fisher College marketing and communications team won high praise from the Rochester chapter of the Public Relations Society of America during the organization’s annual PRism Awards Ceremony, held on Thursday, June 15.
The team was given a PRism Award in the Website (non-profit) category, recognizing their efforts behind the new www.sjfc.edu, which launched in January 2017. The first major overhaul since 2010, the new site features a responsive design with new information architecture; clear calls to action; large images across the homepage and high level landing pages; and visually engaging content. The site also calls more attention to the Student Life section and Fisher’s social media feeds are now integrated into the site, offering a dynamic presentation of what is happening on campus daily. The new Experience Fisher page is an interactive snapshot of the passion, people, and places that embody Fisher. In the first 60 days of the site’s launch, the Experience Fisher page earned more than 3,200 page views and visitors spent an average of 1:12 on the page engaging with the content. Fisher’s team worked closely with mStoner, a web design agency which specializes in higher education, on the project.
The team was also given an Award of Excellence in the Feature Story (non-profit) category for the article, Serve and Protect, which details how the College’s criminology program is transforming the next generation of criminal justice professionals. The story featured alumnus and Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy Steve Stepnick ’08, criminology program director Dr. Barb Rockell, and student Amanda Maciol ’17, and was originally published in the winter 2017 edition of Collegium, the College’s alumni magazine.
Nominations for PRism Awards are reviewed by a panel of peer judges from another PRSA chapter and are evaluated based on planning and content; creativity and quality; technical excellence; and assessment and results.
Led by Kate Torok, director of marketing and communications, the College’s marketing team includes Jody Benedict, senior designer - web/print communications; Melissa Greco Lopes, assistant director of marketing and communications; Maherly Schaeffer, advancement communications specialist; and Eryn Yates, digital analyst and designer - web/print communications.
