School of Pharmacy Charters New Leadership Honor Society
On Tuesday, May 9, the Wegmans School of Pharmacy officially chartered the new epsilon delta chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma (PLS). The national pharmacy leadership society, PLS promotes the development of leadership qualities, especially among pharmacy students.
By peer recognition, the Society encourages participation in pharmacy activities. Although membership crosses fraternal and organizational lines, the Society does not compete with other pharmacy organizations.
Since there no greater honor that can be bestowed upon an individual than to be recognized as a leader by one’s peers, PLS officials said this type of recognition encourages a more active role and promotes greater effort toward the advancement of pharmacy.
Mary Euler, the executive director of the national organization of PLS, traveled to Rochester to present the School with the chartering document and participate in the ceremonial rituals associated with the first induction ceremony.
Charter members inducted into PLS include faculty members Dr. Christine Birnie, dean of the School; Dr. Keith DelMonte, director of experiential education; and Dr. Mona Gandhi, associate professor, students Maria Caraballo, Catherine Felberbaum, Mariah Haley, Jennifer Mappus, Ngoc-Yen Pham, Joy Snyder, and Roberto Voica; and alumnus Dr. Amit Patel ’10 (Pharm.D.).
