Dr. Yi Liu, CFP®, currently holds the position of assistant professor of finance at St. John Fisher University. She earned her Ph.D. in personal financial planning from Texas Tech University and holds an M.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Previously, she served as an assistant professor in the Finance and Economics Department at the College for Financial Planning.

Dr. Liu’s research focuses on the dynamic interplay between psycho-social attributes and financial behavior. She delves into the intricate relationships between personality traits, well-being, and various financial decisions, aiming to provide comprehensive insights into how psychological factors influence financial choices and outcomes. As an accomplished researcher in financial planning, Dr. Liu has contributed significantly to the field. Her work has been published in financial planning journals, including Financial Planning Review, Journal of Family and Economic Issues, Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, Financial Services Review, Journal of Personal Finance, Journal of Retirement, and Applied Economics Letters. Actively engaged in the academic community, Dr. Liu serves as a journal reviewer for financial planning publications such as the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, Financial Planning Review, and Financial Services Review.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Dr. Liu was honored as part of the 2023 Class of Forty Under 40 by Investment News.

Dr. Liu aims to utilize her academic experience to educate and inspire the next generation of financial planners. Her goal is to integrate academic knowledge with practical insights, empowering firms, organizations, and advisers to guide their clients toward enhanced financial well-being and happiness.
