Dr. Avery joined the Wegman School of Pharmacy in 2008. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She completed a postgraduate year 2 residency in Infectious Diseases at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Avery didactic teaching focuses on antimicrobial use for various infectious diseases. She provides clinical pharmacy services and precepts fourth-year pharmacy students at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health in Syracuse, New York. She is a member of the infectious disease consult service and is the Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship program at the hospital. Dr. Avery serves as the residency program director for the PGY-2 Infectious Diseases residency program of St. John Fisher University and St. Joseph’s Health. She also coordinated St. John Fisher University's Wegmans School of Pharmacy teaching certificate program available for area residents.
Dr. Avery’s research interests include antibiotic stewardship, antibiotic allergy assessment, antibiotic dosing in obesity, and antibiotic use across the continuum of care. (outpatient, inpatient, long-term care, intensive care unit)
