Child Care (Early Learning Center)

In caring for your child, the St. John Fisher College Early Learning Center focuses on all aspects of a child's growth and developmental patterns: physical, intellectual, social, and emotional.

The Center provides a caring environment where a child can grow through play activities and social interaction with other children.

The Early Learning Center is a New York State licensed child care facility.

Enrollment at the Early Learning Center

The St. John Fisher College Early Learning Center is licensed by the New York State Department of Social Services. The Center primarily serves children of St. John Fisher College students, faculty, and staff. General community enrollment is accepted on a space-available basis. Children may register for half days or full days. All children enrolled in the Center must have a doctor's health form and an emergency information card completed before the first day the child attends.

To attend the "toddlers" group, children must be at least 18 months old. The pre-school/kindergarten group will accept children three through six years old. Maximum enrollment is 54 children.

An after-school program is available with bus service from school within the Pittsford Central School District.

To register your child, please call the Center at (585) 385-8327 and arrange a convenient time to visit.

Administration of the Early Learning Center

The Center is staffed by a director, an educational coordinator, and teachers who meet New York State requirements for child care providers. They, as well as the teaching assistants, have experience in caring for toddlers and young children. Fisher students with courses in child-related areas are assigned as teaching aids. The staff-child ratio for the pre-school group is about 1:7. The toddler group ratio is 1:5. In addition to the regular staff, nursing, psychology, and education students from Fisher may bring special projects to the Center and come to observe young children in play.

The Center is administered by the director of the Early Learning Center in cooperation with the director of auxiliary programs at St. John Fisher College. An advisory board, including parents and other College representatives, assists in the development of the programs and policies.
